Reselling the Platform

Running shops for your own clients under your own name, and how the commission side really works.

A reseller sells the platform on to their own clients. You get a panel of your own at /reseller, the shops you have signed up appear in it, and your clients see your name and colours rather than the platform's. It is a different arrangement from being a merchant with several shops: your clients are your customers, and you are theirs.

Reseller accounts are approved rather than opened. Until yours is approved, you can sign in and see nothing worth seeing.

What Is in Your Panel

Four things.

A dashboard with your shop count and commission position.

Your shops. Every tenant signed up under you, with its plan and status. This is a list of what you have sold, not a way into your clients' admin. You do not get their orders, their customers or their settings from here, which is the right answer for data protection and occasionally an inconvenient one for support.

Your commissions. One record per shop per period, with what the platform billed, your rate, your share, whether it has been paid and when.

Your branding. What your clients see.

Branding

Company name, logo, favicon, two brand colours, support email, support address and phone, a message on the login screen, and custom CSS if you need to go further than colours.

Logo and favicon are given as addresses rather than uploaded, so they have to be hosted somewhere that will still be serving them in two years. A logo that disappears takes your clients' login screen with it.

Set the Support Details Before the First Client

The support email and phone are what a confused client reaches for. Left blank, they find the platform's, and your first indication that you have a client in difficulty is the platform telling you. These take a minute and are the single most useful part of the branding.

White labelling, including running the whole thing on a domain of your own, is switched on per reseller rather than by you. A custom domain also needs a certificate for that name, so it is arranged rather than typed in.

Commissions, and What Does Not Happen

Your rate is set on your account. A commission record holds a period, the platform revenue from one shop in that period, your rate, and the resulting amount.

Commission Records Are Not Produced Automatically

Nothing generates these on a schedule. A period passing does not create a row, and a client paying their bill does not create one either. They are produced by the platform side, which means your panel can be empty or out of date through nothing being wrong. Treat the list as a statement of what has been agreed and recorded, not as a live ledger of what you are owed, and reconcile it against your own record of which clients were active in a period.

The status on a record tells you where it is, and a paid record carries its payment date. If a period you expected is missing, the answer is a conversation rather than a setting.

Signing Up a Client

The shop is created in the normal way and attributed to you. What matters is that it is attributed at the point it is created: a shop that signs up on its own and is later meant to be yours does not become yours by itself, and sorting that out afterwards is manual work for somebody. Send clients through your own route, every time, even when it would be quicker to tell them the main address.

What You Cannot Do

Worth knowing before you promise it:

You cannot see inside a client's shop. No orders, no products, no settings. Support means talking them through it or being invited in as staff on their shop, which is their decision and their user record.

You cannot change a client's plan from your panel. Plans are a platform-side change.

You cannot bill your clients through the platform. The platform bills the shop. What you charge your client on top, and how you collect it, is between you and them.

You do not get a copy of their email. Order confirmations, shipping notices and the rest go from the shop to its own customers. Your branding covers the admin they log into, not the email their shoppers receive.

When Something Looks Wrong

Your panel is empty. Either your account is not approved yet, or no shops have been attributed to you.

A shop you signed up is missing. It was created outside your route and belongs to nobody.

Your branding is not showing. White labelling is enabled per reseller. Without it, the branding is stored and not used.

A custom domain shows the platform's login. The domain has to match exactly what is recorded, white labelling has to be on, and the certificate has to cover the name. All three, or the request is served as an ordinary platform address.
